Biography
Hetvi is a doctoral student in the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering at UT Austin. She brings industrial experience from her work at ExxonMobil prior to pursuing her doctoral studies. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, India, where she primarily focused on non-catalytic pyrolysis of microplastics. Her research involved studying the particle size effects on the pyrolysis oil properties and the overall
optimization of the reaction process parameters. She also invented a novel test for detecting steroids in various substances that eliminates the use of controlled chemicals. This test serves as a cost-effective and robust alternative to the classical Liebermann-Burchard test. Additionally, Hetvi collaborated with the Maker Bhavan Foundation to establish and build the Tinkerers’ Lab at ICT Mumbai, one of India’s first chemical engineering-related fabrication labs.
Hetvi is co-advised by Prof. Manish Kumar and Prof. Ryosuke Okuno since Fall’25, and her current research focuses on membrane electrodialysis for applications in carbon capture and sequestration.
