Biography
Boya Xiong graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biotechnology from East China University of Science and Technology, China in  2011. She pursued research in screening novel marine microorganism species for new drug discovery in the Flinders University of South Australia. Then she  received her Master’s degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Penn  State 2014 advised by Dr. Tom Richard and Dr. Manish Kumar. She developed a  nanofiltration membrane-based separation platform to purify value-added biofuel intermediates produced from bioenergy crops. With a strong passion for wastewater and water treatment, Boya started pursuing a PhD degree in  Environmental Engineering at Penn State in spring 2015, working on investigating microfiltration fouling by flowback and produced water from  unconventional oil and gas development. She is co-advised by Profs. Manish Kumar and  Andrew Zydney.​
